Robert Mecionis

Bob Mecionis has 32 years of experience with tellurics and high-rez magnetotelluric technologies in several subsurface disciplines, specializing in oil and gas exploration. His field projects range throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Eastern Europe, and the Sultanate of Oman. Mr. Mecionis graduated in 1984 with an M.S. in geology from Bowling Green State University, where his research specialty was carbonate diagenesis. During college he served as a consultant for the State of Ohio, working as a microscopist/analyst in the asbestos program.

Mr. Mecionis began his career in tellurics in 1984, where his work led to several substantive oil field discoveries in Kansas and Michigan.

In 1986, Mr. Mecionis was contracted to Southport, where his telluric work assisted in major hydrocarbon discoveries in several areas of the U.S. and Canada. During this period, he was involved in a successful research and development program which added to the understanding of the fluid modulation signal.

In 1988, Bob joined Southport as a technologist/geologist, making significant contributions to Southport’s drilling and research and development programs. In 1993, Bob became a part of the team that developed the highly successful Z-SCAN and DIGILOG high resolution magnetotelluric systems. His efforts have contributed to numerous discoveries of hydrocarbon fields, execution of successful solution mining projects, cavern volume and integrity studies, and coal surveys which have accurately predicted thickness and structural aspects of coal bodies ahead of mining. He continues to work in the field of high resolution magnetotellurics today.

Bob is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and is a certified member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists.
